Ed Stokes — President

Ed Stokes is the founder and patriarch of independent family owned Diablo Foods. Ed was recently named, “The 2010 Retailer of the Year” by the California Independent Grocer’s Association.

When he launched Diablo Foods, 43 years ago, Ed worked the check stand twelve hours a day for two straight years.  His wife, Betty, put in long hours behind the deli counter for years.  Both Ed and Betty continue their active presence at the store to catch up with customers and to make sure their governing philosophy endures.  “While some things change, the important things don’t – good service, fairness, quality and friendliness know no compromise – they matter in business and they matter in life.”

Betty Stokes — Family Matriarch

been with the company: Since the store opened, 44 years

Betty put in long hours on the deli counter for years, and has long been a force behind the scenes.  All the while, she always kept her primary priority the family and raising her children with Ed.

These days Betty enjoys a more relaxed schedule with her husband. They love their time together and with their expanding family.

Dan Stokes — Vice President

been with the company: 41 years

Dan has worked for Diablo Foods for 41 years, in all aspects of the business. He is privileged to have been able to work next to his father for four decades, and is especially proud of his manegment team and great staff. Dan enjoys the energy that comes from all the characters that work here, and the great customers that shop here.

Connie Stokes Collier — Manager of Foo Foo La La

been with the company: since high school years

I was not initially interested in working at the store, but my Dad and older brother, Danny, would frequently ask me about unusual products to get my perspective as a woman and as a shopper.  Before I knew it, I was able to develop and bring my vision and touch into the store, helping to move it beyond a traditional grocery store.  That so called "Foo Foo La La".

It is fabulous to be able to work with my Dad, my brother, my son, and the entire Diablo Foods family of fantastic people!

Daniel Collier — Store Manager

been with the company: all his life, 7 official years

I am very fortunate to be part of the present and the future, and to have a role in the legacy of our family organization. What I enjoy most are the ongoing relationships with customers, employees, and the community. The daily flow of the store is truly rewarding.

My community roots run deep - I was raised in Lafayette, graduated from St. Mary's College with a degree in finance, and now live in Orinda with my fantastic wife, Michele, and our adorable young daughter, Quinn.

Sibhan Stokes, Dan’s wife, brings her expertise with floral and organics to the store with cutting edge products.
